Dear Parents,
Welcome Back and Happy Spring! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Easter and break from homework, tests, and the alarm clock and now are ready to begin again as there is still much work to accomplish.
In Religion, during the next few weeks we will cover the different parts of the Mass as well as the Liturgical Calendar. The all-school Mass this month is Wednesday, April 21st. Parents are invited to attend as we thank God for the blessings of the Easter season.
In Reading, the third graders are enjoying the novel James and the Giant Peach. We should finish the novel by the end of this month. Starting next Monday the children will decorate their own individual clay pots with the characters and creatures from the story. The third graders will then have a choice to plant tomato, radish, or sunflower seeds in their individual clay pots. At the conclusion of the novel, we will plant a peach tree in the garden by the convent. Hopefully, next year the children will be able to enjoy a peach from their tree. Finally, in your child's Corrected Work Folder there will be additional work completed in class.
In Math, we are starting a Division Unit. The third graders will be taught to divide with and without remainders. Mastery of the multiplication facts is a MUST! Daily drills in class will continue, but extra reinforcement at home is still necessary for proficiency!
In Language Arts, the third graders enjoyed listening to their classmates'
persuasive essays. The graded essays will be in your child's Corrected Work Folder. We will now begin our Animal Research Project. The Research Packet will be sent home with your third grader on Friday. Please review the packet and instructions with your third grader!
In Social Studies, we will continue Moving West. This week and next week the third graders will find themselves traveling along the Oregon and Santa Fe Trails. In the Computer Lab, the children will complete a Web-Quest. We will start the Web-Quest on Thursday and continue again next Tuesday and Thursday. Please ask your third grade about their journey!
Finally, listed below are pertinent dates for all third graders!
Wednesday, April 14th-Muffins for Moms flyer sent home!

As always, please contact me with any questions or comments. Thank-you for your continued positive reinforcement at home!
Sincerely,
Ms. Maguire
